FLOWERS FOR FLACO
Global acts pay tribute to Flaco Jiménez in all-star San Antonio show

Flaco Jiménez plays at a previous Tejano Conjunto Festival.
Although many in San Antonio may regard conjunto as a regional style, its influence has crossed the globe. Case in point: a crew of international greats will gather at Rosedale Park on May 17 to pay tribute to the late musical icon Flaco Jiménez during the annual Tejano Conjunto Festival (TCF).
Most locals don’t need an introduction to Jiménez. The Tejano musical legend, who died in August 2025 at age 86, soundtracked the lives of generations of San Antonians. As a solo artist and member of supergroups Texas Tornados and Los Super Seven, the singer-songwriter and accordionist helped make conjunto a phenomenon.
The Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, which produces the festival, says the lineup reflects Jiménez's global impact.
"I think this is one of the best and most diverse, nationally and internationally, musical line-ups we've had at the TCF in a long time," said Festival Founder Juan Tejeda in a release. "No other tribute to Flaco has brought together as many international artists to honor him."
The evening begins with a set from Grammy Award-winning ensemble Los Texmaniacs, followed by a survey of how Jiménez and conjunto music have transcended their Texas roots. The performers include:
- Santiago Jiménez Jr. – Master accordionist and torchbearer of the Jiménez musical dynasty
- Dwayne Verheyden – Acclaimed accordionist from the Netherlands whose playing is inspired by Flaco Jiménez’s distinctive style
- Honorio Imamura of Conjunto J – A respected accordionist from Japan
- Antonio Tanguma Jr. – Monterrey-based accordionist, composer, and educator dedicated to preserving regional Mexican accordion traditions
- Miguel Perez – Accordionist with Conjunto San Antonio of Spain
- Linda Escobar – Pioneering singer-songwriter known as the “Queen of Conjunto”
- Arturo Jiménez and Gil Jiménez – Members of the renowned Jiménez family
The 44th annual Tejano Conjunto Festival runs May 14-17, bringing in storied acts like Los Fantasmas del Valle and talented high school ensembles. The Jiménez tribute kicks off at 8 pm on May 17. A three-day pass to the musical celebration is $50.
