Labor Day Tejano festival makes splash on Texas gulf coast
Bobby Pulido will headline Fiesta en la Playa.
This Labor Day, a sleepy coastal Texas town is getting a little louder. Fiesta en la Playa, Rockport’s annual Tejano festival, is expanding to a three-day pachanga held at the Rockport Market Day Grounds on September 4-6.
The market and Jim Luna of QuarterMoon Productions have poured more than $200,000 into the 2026 event in hopes of making the festival a top regional event. This year, they hope to welcome at least 30,000 attendees.
At least some will be there to see one of the ‘90s biggest Tejano stars. Bobby Pulido, former teen star and current Democratic nominee for Texas' 15th Congressional District, will be the special guest kicking off the weekend.
Gabriella Martinez (a Selena tribute act), Los Enmascarados, and The Meza Band will play all three days of the fest. Other musical guests include:
Friday
- La Fiebre
- Chente Barrera
- Los Garcia Brothers
Saturday
- Emilio Tribute featuring Diego & Emilio IV
- Navaira
- Loca Pasión (La Mafia Tribute)
- Ram Herrera
- David Marez
- Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers
Beyond the main stage, attendees can cheer on lucha libre wrestlers or racing chihuahuas. If they want to take home some cash, they can compete in a tamale-eating contest or a women's chancla-throwing competition. Kids can’t vie for the $3,000 pot, but likely won’t notice when smashing piñatas.
After the games, guests can wander through a bustling mercado with more than 100 vendors, including 12 food trucks and a full-service bar. Live DJ sets, mariachi performers, and folklorico dancers will keep the atmosphere lively.
The festival announcement comes a month after Airbnb named Rockport one of the most family-friendly, affordable beach destinations in the U.S., saying the coastal community offers “room for the whole family to spread out, proximity to the water, and a price that makes the trip feasible.”
That affordability extends to the ticket price, which runs from $23.34 for a single-day pass to $115.37 for a three-day VIP pass.
“Fiesta en la Playa is about bringing people together,” said Josh Meinhausen of Rockport Market Days, in a release. “Whether you’re a lifelong Tejano fan, visiting the coast for Labor Day Weekend, or simply looking for an incredible family festival, you’ll find something to love. We believe this will become one of the premier Labor Day celebrations on the Texas coast.”
