Alamo Heights Night abruptly pauses 2026 Fiesta event after 40 years

Alamo Heights Night's fate is uncertain after its 2026 cancellation.
One of San Antonio Fiesta’s most anticipated events has been cancelled, initially causing confusion with locals and the venue. Alamo Heights Night, known as the “party time in ‘09,” has been abruptly “paused” according to a notice on its website.
The reason for the cancellation was initially kept quiet. But Alamo Heights Rotary Club President Rick Thorp later told KSAT that it communicated the cancellation to Fiesta organizers months ago. The event, originally scheduled for April 17, was no longer serving its original purpose of raising funds for San Antonio nonprofits.
“Revenues last year did not raise sufficient funds for organizers to finance the event this year,” Thorp said in a statement shared with the station. “The event had become one that barely breaks even, which was limiting the ability of the club to provide charitable contributions to various nonprofits in the community.”
Since 1987, save for a couple of missed years during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alamo Heights Rotary Club has run the event as its largest fundraiser. According to a 2025 release, the event has raised over $2.4 million and takes a crew of over 400 volunteers to pull off.
The event started as a neighborhood block party at Heights Pool, steadily drawing more locals until it outgrew its site. In 2010, it moved to the University of the Incarnate Word campus.
The Rotary Club did not say whether it was disassociating with Alamo Heights Night, but placeholder text on the event site says that contacts for the event would soon change. Any new information about location and future dates will be posted on the existing web page. A request for further details was not immediately returned.
