Boerne boutique sniffs out title of coolest pet shop in U.S.

Fetch & Friskers Pet Shop and Barkery in Boerne has collared a national honor from a trade magazine for the pet industry.

PETS+ magazine named Fetch & Friskers, located on I-10 West, one of nine “coolest” pet businesses in the U.S. for 2026. It’s the only Texas pet business that the magazine threw a bone to.

In a mini-profile of Fetch & Friskers, PETS+ says Michele Jaime grew the business from a 900-square-foot pet boutique into a 6,000-square-foot location with 15 freezers of raw and gently cooked products, a “barkery” of baked goods, and a cat café.

“In 2011, I opened Fetch & Friskers with the goal of creating a unique independent pet store unlike anything else in the San Antonio area,” Jaime says on the shop’s website. “I wanted to offer products and experiences customers couldn’t find in big-box stores, including fresh handmade treats from our Barkery.”

According to PETS+, Jaime praises her employees, including a team of certified pet nutritionists, for contributing to Fetch & Friskers’ success by serving as pet wellness advocates rather than regular retail staffers.

“You can clearly see the passion and the authenticity of mission,” says contest judge Claudia Loomis, owner of New Jersey’s CB Pet Market stores and grooming salons. “The displays are lovely, the store is very nicely merchandised, and the number of freezers is impressive — I particularly like that they are branded.”

On its website, Fetch & Friskers says that beyond food, it carries a variety of merchandise such as custom bedding and carriers; dog and cat dishes; leashes and collars; and “high-end dog couture.” The store’s gift selection includes greeting cards; sympathy gifts; and T-shirts, coffee mugs, and artwork for pet lovers.

Fetch & Friskers also earns cool points for its commitment to the Boerne community. In August, the Boerne Police Department threw a party for public-service pooch Warti at the store. The Belgian Malinois received a baked treat shaped like a bone.
