Beloved annual dogs and kites festival romps into San Antonio

A style icon wears kite couture during Fest of Tails.
Collectively, I think we can all agree we need this. Fest of Tails, San Antonio’s cutest festival, is returning March 14, bringing together adorable pups and whimsical kites to McAllister Park, 13102 Jones Maltzberger Rd.
The annual event is a celebration of pets, parks, and those few spring days before San Antonio’s weather becomes punishing. While there are plenty of activities for all ages, the Pooch Parade and Costume Contest is the can’t-miss social event of the season, at least for poodles and pugs.
This year, the canine fashion show will feature a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Guests are likely to spot a few fuzzy leprechauns, but — if they truly have the luck of the Irish — maybe they’ll spot an English bulldog in Enya drag.
Other activities include:
- Ghisallo Cycling’s adventure course
- Large kite displays and kites for sale
- Artisan market with dog products and treats
- Food trucks and carnival games
- Plant and tree giveaway
- Dog adoptions
While enjoying the festival, pet owners can also check out McAllister Park’s latest improvement, an outdoor fitness station funded by bond monies.
"Fest of Tails is one of our favorite events of the year,” says San Antonio Parks Foundation President & CEO Mary Jane Verette, via a release. “The festival is a harbinger of spring renewal as we celebrate our love of pets, parks, and the great outdoors. It’s a day full of fun, activity, and connection, and we can’t wait to see everyone at McAllister Park."
Fest of Tails runs from 9 am-2 pm on Saturday, March 14. Admission is free, and all dog breeds are welcome. To register your dog for the Pooch Parade, click here.
