3 San Antonio companies named best places to work by U.S. News

San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B is one of the best places to work for, according to U.S. News.
Three distinguished San Antonio-based companies have been hailed among the best places to work in 2025 by U.S. News and World Report.
The annual "U.S. News Best Companies to Work For" report examines thousands of publicly-traded companies around the world to determine the best employers based on six metrics including work-life balance and flexibility; quality of pay and benefits; job and company stability; career opportunities and professional development; and more. The companies were not ranked, but included based on reader surveys and publicly available data about each workplace.
New for the 2025-2026 ratings,U.S. News expanded its methodology to include privately owned companies and companies with internship opportunities for recent graduates and new, current, and prospective students. Companies were also grouped into job-specific and industry-specific lists, and the publication also added a new list highlighting "employers that are particularly friendly to employees who are also caregivers in their personal lives."
U.S. News included two privately owned companies and one publicly-traded company in San Antonio on the lists.
It may not come as a surprise that beloved supermarket chain H-E-B landed at the top of the list of top private employers in the Alamo City. The innovative grocery company currently operates more than 435 stores in Texas and in Mexico, and U.S. News says it generated between $1 and $10 billion in revenue in 2024.
H-E-B is more than just a grocery store brand, it also operates restaurants Main Street Food Hall, True Texas BBQ, and other supermarkets such as Joe V's Smart Shop, Central Market, and Mi Tienda.
The company earned high ratings by U.S. News across all six metrics in the report. In addition to earning a place among U.S. News' overall "Best Companies" list, H-E-B also appeared in the industry-specific "Best in Consumer Products" list.
Construction engineering company Zachry Group was the second privately owned San Antonio-headquartered company to make the list. The company was founded in 1924, and U.S. News estimates it employs more than 10,000 people.
Zachry Group describes itself as "North America's pacesetter in turnkey engineering, construction, maintenance, turnaround and fabrication services to the energy, chemicals, power, manufacturing and industrial sectors."
"We work with customers to plan, build and renew their most critical facilities, so they can achieve their immediate and long-term goals, all at the highest safety standards," the company website says. "Since 1924, we have been a purpose-driven organization, united by a shared set of values and the desire to deliver the very best outcome for our customers."
Zachry Group was also included in the "Best in Engineering and Construction" list.
In the category of publicly traded companies headquartered in San Antonio, Frost Bank landed on top as one of the best employers thanks to its job stability, its safe work environment, and "belongingness." The report says the banker has 5,854 domestic employees, generates $2.84 billion in annual revenue, and has a market cap of $7.38 billion.
Frost Bank also earned recognition in U.S. News' "Best in Finance and Insurance" list and "Best Companies in the South" list.
