In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the H-E-B-owned delivery service Favor has expanded in the Alamo City, including adding service to South San Antonio. On April 8, Favor announced it had launched in 11 new areas in San Antonio and 75 new markets across the state.
Favor, whose app can be downloaded through Apple’s App Store or Google Play, is primarily known as a delivery service for area restaurants. But Favor’s drivers also can deliver an array of other items, including groceries, dry cleaning, and apparel. Though the company typically charges a delivery fee and recommends tips for drivers, it is waiving some fees during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The San Antonio grocery chain purchased the Austin-based Favor in 2018 for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 2013, Favor operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the grocery chain.
New service areas in and near the San Antonio area include Floresville, Fredericksburg, Hondo, Kerrville, La Vernia, Luling, Lyle, Pearsall, Pleasanton, South San Antonio, and Uvalde.
“With Texans relying on delivery now more than ever, it is our duty to support more of our communities across the state, as quickly as possible,” says Jag Bath, CEO of Austin-based Favor and chief digital officer of H-E-B. “H-E-B and Favor joined forces in 2018 to better serve our Texas customers and communities together, and we remain committed to doing everything we can for our state during this crisis.”
With the delivery expansion, H-E-B and Favor’s Senior Support Program now is available to people 60 and over at every H-E-B, Central Market, and Joe’s V store in Texas. H-E-B and Favor launched the program March 20, enabling seniors to receive same-day, no-contact deliveries of groceries and essentials without leaving their homes.
To keep the program affordable, H-E-B and Favor are waiving all delivery and service fees for the first 30 days. Every order includes a $10 tip, which goes entirely to the Favor driver who shops for and delivers items. Donations to H-E-B and Favor’s new Senior Support Fund are applied to seniors’ orders.
