Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival continues is once again lighting up San Antonio’s Aiden hotel with a brand new pop up gallery featuring Texas artists, this one focused on flowers. It runs at 1103 E Commerce St through July 10.
“Luminaria’s partnership with The Aiden brings local art to a tourist destination where visitors can enjoy an authentic San Antonio experience and possibly take a piece of San Antonio home with them," said Luminaria executive director Yadhira Lozano. "In turn, local artists and art lovers enjoy opening night where we all gather and meet to celebrate the creativity of our vibrant city."
Creative Blooms is the third themed pop up exhibition gallery produced by Luminaria working with Aiden, a project that will run through next May. Nine artists will display works related to Texas's wildflowers and other blooms appropriate for the last month of spring. One San Antonio artist presenting work is Amira Alsareinye. Alsareinye is of Syrian and Mexican heritage who has been on a whirlwind tour of Texas, showing works in Austin, Houston, and here in her hometown.
Other artists featured include Alex Chappel, Anthony Bender, Art by Megz, Liliana Wilson, Nia Jaramillo, Shelby Criswell, and Symone Harvey. Future themed exhibitions will focus on summer activities, Latin tropical countries, the winter holidays, Black American history, and Women's history.
Luminaria is most famous for its annual contemporary arts festival held free every year. The annual street event hosts hundreds of visual and performing artists in the streets of San Antonio. At first, the focus was mostly on illuminated works.
While light installations are still a part of the overall picture, Luminaria has branched out to a more general arts organization supporting local creativity. The new pop-up series at the East Side hotel is part of a general expansion from just being a festival to an organization that hosts art in many venues throughout the year.
