something to sing about
Mamma Mia!, Hadestown, and 8 other shows hit the stage for Broadway in San Antonio's 2024-25 season

Mamma Mia! is one of 10 shows coming in the new Broadway in San Antonio season.
Who needs New York? San Antonio has its own Broadway, and we're not talking about the street. Broadway in San Antonio, a regional arm of the touring Broadway Across America program, has organized 10 shows for the 2024-25 season.
Among this lineup are iconic musicals like Les Misérables and Funny Girl, alongside newer hits like Hadestown and Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The latter and three others — MJ The Musical, Shucked, and The Wiz — are making their San Antonio debut.
Many of the shows coming through are also playing in Austin, but the cities' seasons aren't exactly the same. It might be worth making the drive to Austin to see the smash hit Hamilton, the emotional Come From Away, or the board game-inspired play Clue. The latter two, however, are still upcoming in the current season in San Antonio, so don't hop in the car yet. Austinites also may be traveling in for Mean Girls, Hadestown, The Wiz, and Mamma Mia!
Broadway in San Antonio, which brings Broadway shows to Austin thanks to highly skilled touring casts and meticulous set reproductions, is presented by North Park Lexus San Antonio & Dominion Broadway in San Antonio at the Majestic Theatre.
The new season welcomes members with 7-show subscription packages, with some shows offered as "options." These packages (starting at $350) are on sale now. Folks who just want to catch one or two favorite shows will be able to buy tickets later in the year. More information is available at sanantonio.broadway.com.
The 2024-2025 Season features 10 productions from September 2024 to June 2025 at the Majestic Theatre:
- MJ The Musical
September 24-29, 2024
The late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, hits the stage once again thanks to this tribute show that follows the 1992 Dangerous World Tour. Choreography is, of course, a big part of this popular musical. - Mean Girls (Season option)
November 8-10
The iconic 2004 movie about high school politics became a musical in 2017. Then that was adapted into a 2024 film. Go figure. Tina Fey, who wrote the original movie, also wrote the book for the musical, so the humor stays intact. - Shucked
November 26 to December 1, 2024
An irreverent and relatively new musical, Shucked comments on country life via some of country music's biggest songwriters: Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. The latter's songwriting credits include Kacey Musgraves, Luke Bryan, and Reba McEntire. - Peter Pan
December 17–22, 2024
This magical, long-running musical might cause nostalgia for many audience members, and is presented in a new adaptation. This show will be the first in TPA's history that's available for free to K-12 students during the daytime. - Hadestown(Season option)
January 10-12, 2025
Based on two intertwined Greek myths and New Orleans jazz written in Vermont, this eclectic musical really stands out from others available on Broadway stages. Its buzzy cast has included Lillias White, Ani DiFranco, Betty Who, and more. - Les Misérables
February 4–9, 2025
The standard favorite musical of many a serious theater kid, this post-revolutionary show about 19th century France will make audiences think about resilience and the indomitable human spirit. - Funny Girl
February 25 to March 2, 2025
One of the most revered musicals in Broadway's history, Funny Girl comes to Austin hot on the heels of Barbra Streisand's historic Lifetime Achievement SAG Award. The role Streisand originated will always be fresh and endearing, with iconic numbers like "Don't Rain On My Parade." - Mamma Mia! (Season option)
April 1-6, 2025
Perhaps the most famous of all jukebox musicals, this ABBA-based extravaganza turns the stage into a dance floor. Featuring disco hits like "Dancing Queen," "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)," and of course "Mamma Mia," this musical was also adapted into a movie franchise with stars as big as Meryl Streep, Cher, and Colin Firth. - The Wiz
May 6-11, 2024
This contemporary re-telling of the Wizard of Oz from a culturally Black perspective is well-known for its 70s Afrofuturism (and subsequent revival), including a diverse mix of musical styles born from Blackness: soul, gospel, funk, and rock. Dancers also embody a mix of ballet, jazz, and modern pop styles. - Moulin Rouge! The Musical
May 27 to June 8, 2025
This musical adapted from the flashy, famous Baz Luhrmann film presents pop hits in an over-the-top Vaudeville style that's perfect for the stage. Songs featured include "Lady Marmalade," "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," "Your Song," and a long list of other classics in many styles.
