5 must-see San Antonio art shows to catch before summer ends

"Fachadas" is now on view at Southtown's FL!GHT Gallery.
San Antonio's art scene is sizzling this August with new and ongoing exhibitions that turn everything from yarn to bronze shoes into startling new forms. From a free pop-up gallery at St. Paul Square's Aiden hotel to a Ruby City showing that focuses on unexpected materials, these five must-see art happenings are essential stops on your late-summer itinerary.
Whether you're seeking AC, inspiration, or a little bit of both, these exhibitions prove that San Antonio's art scene is thriving in every corner of the city. Just don't wait; several of these experiences disappear with the summer sun.
Luminaria's Pop-Up Art Gallery at the Aiden Hotel
On the scenic Riverwalk, the Aiden Hotel transforms into a temporary art destination thanks to Luminaria's latest pop-up, "It's Hot." Themed around Texas' scorching summers, the free exhibition spotlights a rotating roster of local artists, making it a perfect midday stop for tourists and locals alike. Expect to see works spanning painting, photography, and mixed media, all in an intimate setting that invites you to linger. The show closes September 12.
"Irrationally Speaking" at Ruby City
August 31 is the last day for the year-long exhibit at the late Linda Pace's jewel of a contemporary art space. The group show addresses multiplicity through collage and assemblage — combining objects like bronze-cast shoes, discarded clothing, wood fragments, and digital prints into revelatory wholes. Contemporary creators Arturo Herrera, Thomas Hirschhorn, Wangechi Mutu, Lorraine O'Grady, and Nancy Spero are among the visionaries featured. Reservations are recommended.

"Faces of Home" at Clamp Light Artist Studios & Gallery
This artist-run space in Beacon Hill is known for pushing boundaries and fostering dialogue between emerging and established local creatives. The intimate gallery is connected to working studios, so you might meet an artist mid-process while browsing the latest exhibition. Currently, that's "Faces of Home," a group show featuring dreamy, colorful new work from the residents.
"Only Dust Knows What's Left Behind" at Presa House Gallery
Presa House consistently showcases culturally resonant, thought-provoking creations from regional and Latine artists. Its cozy, converted-home setting makes for a warm and personal experience. The newest show, running by appointment from August 16 through September 13, collects pieces from artists who formerly called Brownsville's Flower Shop Residency home. Using dust as a metaphor, the multi-media installations explore the "whispered and forgotten moments that bind us all together," according to a social media statement from curator Jesús Treviño.
"Fachadas" at FL!GHT Gallery
One of San Antonio's most adventurous art spaces, FL!GHT at Blue Star has a reputation for bold, experimental shows that challenge the viewer. Expect to see edgy displays that are as conversation-starting as they are visually compelling. New exhibitions open every month during Southtown's First Friday crawl. Through August 31, fiber artist Jessica Ramirez reflects on an Argentinian sabbatical through architectural mixed-media facades that combine weavings, wood construction, and line drawings.
