Famous blogger writes next chapter with new San Antonio bookstore

A New York Times best-selling author is taking up a new title: bookstore owner. Jenny Lawson, known internationally as “The Bloggess,” will open Nowhere Bookshop in San Antonio.
The humorist behind You Are Here and Furiously Happy first announced the plans in an April blog post but had not yet secured a location. In a September 1 tweet, she shared the “big, terrifying news” that she had signed a lease at an unspecified location.
In the original announcement, Lawson wrote that opening a bookstore had been a lifelong dream. Although Nowhere may eventually expand to a bookmobile if it turns a profit, it will start off as a small, independent venture.
“It will have space for authors to come and talk, and for readers to hide away in cubbies, and for groups to meet for book clubs and writing workshops. It will have a small space for writers who need to write but who also want to not just hide away in their houses all day,” she explained.
Lawson added that she will be one of the writers working at the shop. A few lucky customers may even get the chance to read advance chapters of future books.
For those who do not live in San Antonio, Nowhere will offer online clubs. Author talks will be live-streamed to reach Lawson’s wide network of fans.
Lawson also hinted that Nowhere might have a bar component, although CultureMap was unable to confirm.
“In my mind it is filled with shop cats and surprise ferrets and a margarita bar and old wooden shelves, and new, lovely books and people who won’t talk to you unless you totally want them to,” she wrote.
Lawson is keeping mum on the exact address, although she did tease it was in a “cool part of San Antonio.” CultureMap has reached out to Lawson for more details, including an approximate opening date, and will update this story.
