As Scotland emerges from a bloody war, the soldier chieftain Macbeth receives a prophecy from three witches that he will become king. While he and his wife plot to turn the prophecy into reality, the king, Duncan-Llyr, announces his plan to divide his kingdom among his three daughters, Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia.
