
Blue Star Contemporary and Ruby City will present a two-part virtual event for their continuing collaboration, the Contemporary Film Series. For this edition, an eight-minute film produced by sculptor Lara Schnitger and director/choreographer Kitty McNamee titled
Burden Halved
(2020), will be shown concurrently on Ruby City’s AppleTV app and on both Blue Star Contemporary and Ruby City's Facebook Live and Instagram TV streams (@BlueStarArt and @RubyCity).This event marks the film’s premiere in a visual art institution context and features direction and choreography by McNamee and wearable sculptures created by Schnitger, a Linda Pace Foundation Collection artist. The accompanying music is composed and performed by Flea. The film traces the journey of four dancers who struggle to manage their individual burdens but ultimately find solace when their isolated experiences converge and their burdens are shared, halved, and eventually removed.
The three-day online film screening will conclude with a panel discussion on Thursday, September 10 at 6 pm with a panel discussion. The panel will include Lara Schnitger and Kitty McNamee, and the moderators will be Elyse A. Gonzales, the Director of Ruby City, and Jacqueline Saragoza McGilvray, the Curator and Exhibition Manager of Blue Star Contemporary.
