Conjuring passion, love, and strength, the program includes a mixture of works including George Balanchine’s exuberant Rubies, Gerald Arpino’s Round of Angels, and additional works by Ballet SA Artistic Director Willy Shives, including a world premiere.

  • Bolero: Bolero is a pulsation of bodies and music coming together.
  • Round of Angels: Round of Angels was inspired in part by an etching entitled “Ronde d’Anges” by Cavaliere d’Arpino and is set to the haunting Adagietto from Mahler’s Fifth Symphony.
  • Rubies: Igor Stravinsky’s Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra sets the tone for Rubies.  Bold, sexy, sharp and flirtatious, “Rubies” reflects the neoclassical style of dance that George Balanchine created after his arrival in America.
  • Elements: Created for the 2016 Luminaria Festival in San Antonio, this tour de force contemporary ballet challenges the strength and stamina of the dancers on stage.
