Ballet San Antonio’s production of Carmen will be choreographed by internationally acclaimed Cuban artist Yosvani Cortellan.

Inspired by Georges Bizet’s legendary opera, the adaptation tells a story of desire, freedom, and dangerous love. Cortellan - formerly a soloist with Ballet San Antonio - infuses the classic tale with dynamic choreography and vivid theatrical storytelling, revealing the emotional intensity at the heart of the drama.

Set in the vibrant streets of Seville, Carmen follows the fiercely independent gypsy whose irresistible charm captivates Don Jose, a devoted soldier who risks everything when he falls under her spell. But Carmen’s restless spirit soon draws her toward the charismatic bullfighter Escamillo, igniting a passionate and perilous love triangle.
