The Heart of Texas Concert Band will begin the year 2023 with their Children’s Concert. Guest composer/conductor William Owens will conduct the world premiere of “Big Bend,” a suite of tone portraits of the national park written for solo bassoon and concert band. They will also give audience members a light-hearted introduction to the instruments of the symphonic band in a performance of Robert Jager’s “Variations on a Theme by Robert Schumann,” and “Downbeat,” a tongue-in-cheek tale recounting how conductors came to use a baton when conducting. And everyone will enjoy “Over the Rainbow” from Harberg & Arlen’s score to The Wizard of Oz.
