The mission of Family Violence Prevention Services (FVPS) is to break the cycle of violence and to strengthen families by providing the necessary tools for self-sufficiency through the delivery of emergency shelter, transitional housing, education, effective parenting education, and specialized intervention with youth and the elderly. Family Violence Prevention Services has been helping victims of domestic violence in San Antonio since 1977. What began as an emergency shelter for women and children now offers an array of shelter, transitional housing, counseling, and legal services to help individuals and families recover from the effects of domestic violence.

The FVPS Volunteer Services program offers a minimal monthly commitment, short orientations and trainings, flexible schedules, and a variety of positions with room to grow. FVPS volunteers do it all, from volunteering in direct positions with survivors and their children to indirect positions representing Family Violence Prevention Services in the community. For more information on how to become a volunteer, head here.

The annual Honoring Mothers Luncheon at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio celebrates the strength and resiliency of women and mothers, while raising funds for FVPS' Battered Women and Children's Center.
