San Antonio's new nonstop flight takes off to sunny Mexican hot spot

A brand-new nonstop route is dawning in San Antonio. Low-cost carrier Sun Country Airlines is expanding its service from San Antonio International Airport to Cancun International Airport beginning this spring.
On May 28, Sun Country will launch its first San Antonio-Cancun nonstop, operating on Mondays and Fridays. Flights take off both days at 12 pm from SAT, arriving at 2:33 pm in CUN. Return flights depart the Mexican hot spot at 3:35 pm, landing in the Alamo City at 6:06 pm.
To celebrate the new route, the discount airline is currently offering one-way fares to Cancun beginning at $129.
The new San Antonio-Cancun route is part of a massive January 25 news alert in which Sun Country announced the addition of 16 nonstop flights and nine airports to its network.
“We are excited to extend our network and offer people access to even more low-cost vacation options, when they are ready to travel again,” said Sun Country Airlines CEO Jude Bricker in the news alert. “The past year has been a challenge for the travel industry but with increased access to COVID-19 tests and vaccinations, we’re starting to see that turnaround.”
Along with San Antonio, Sun Country is also adding two nonstop routes to Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport: Cancun, beginning May 27, and Las Vegas, beginning September 2.
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is also getting a new nonstop flight to Orange County, on May 6, and one to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, taking off on May 28.
