Popular joint for messy San Antonio burgers flips into a new location
San Antonians have plenty of opportunities to eat something neat — it's time for more oozing cheese, and Tycoon Flats has delivered with a new location at 1017 Austin Hwy.
The burger chain posted on Instagram on November 16 announcing the new spot, with photos: a covered and partially-walled patio, yard games, and what looks like 15 beers on tap including Alamo Beer Company's Golden Ale.
Business at the first location is continuing as usual.
Tycoon Flats makes a very recognizable burger, in part thanks to its twisted pretzel buns. These sandwiches, which also include chicken, veggie burgers, and patty melts — are almost always covered with enough cheese to spill over the sides.
Beyond that, they're stacked so high with toppings they need a professional Guy Fieri-inspired hunch to tackle each bite. Some creative combos include the Monte Cristo burger with mozzarella, Canadian bacon, and raspberry preserves; or the "Aussie Burger with the Lot" including cheddar, a fried egg, bacon, grilled pineapple, pickled beets, and several more standard American toppings.
That makes two locations for the burger joint, which put up signage for the Alamo Heights location in May. The space previously belonged to longtime San Antonio staple the Purple Garlic, which vacated the building in 2020 to head to Hollywood Park.
According to the social media announcement, operating hours are Sunday to Thursday from 11 am to 10 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 11 am to 11 pm. The new website does not yet appear on tycoonflats.com, but menu items and social media links are available.
