Trader Joe’s finally sets opening date for new San Antonio store

Trader Joe's third San Antonio store will open November 4.
San Antonio shoppers, dig out your reusable bags. Trader Joe's is finally opening its long-awaited Northwest Side store on Tuesday, November 4, bringing punny snacks, budget blooms, and Two-Buck Chuck to the Huebner Oaks shopping center, at 11745 I-10 W #410.
Although it does offer a small selection of whole ingredients, Trader Joe's has built its name on its convenience products like its seasoning blends, premade sauces, and marinated meats. The frozen foods — covering international dishes like pork and ginger soup dumplings, Portuguese custard tarts, and French onion mac 'n' cheese — are the subject of intense debate and more than a few internet listicles.
The relatively low prices inspire fierce customer loyalty. Ramsey Solutions ranked Trader Joe's as the fifth least expensive grocery store in 2025, thanks to its reliance on house brands, but that also adds to a very full cart. A popular meme jokes about "death by $2.99."
The grocer's quirky corporate culture is just as notable. Cashiers wear Hawaiian shirts, and store managers are known as "captains." Employees are encouraged to chat with customers and lay on the niceties. Add a bag of peanut butter-filled pretzels, and it makes a cheap substitute for therapy.
The new outpost is Alamo City's third Trader Joe's since the brand first debuted in 2012. The other two stores are both on the North Side at 350 E Basse Rd and 403 N Loop 1604 W. After the November 4 opening, the store will be open from 9 am-9 pm daily.
