New Braunfels scores 2 new convenience stores with craft beer cred

Quickie Pickie is eyeing a New Braunfels store.
A convenience store arms race is brewing in New Braunfels. Austin-based minimarts Quickie Pickie and Beer Geek, both known for a craft beer selection that goes far beyond Bud Light, have filed Texas project details to open new stores in the booming Hill Country town.
Although Quickie Pickie’s history spans 25 years, its 2013 reinvention cemented its place as an East Austin institution. After being saved from demolition, the long-standing store was reworked as a New York City-style bodega, offering grab-and-go fare, breakfast tacos, boutique wines, and beers on tap alongside convenience store staples.
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) paperwork, the planned New Braunfels store at 3054 FM 725 will be very different from the cramped original and a planned second location opening in a mixed-use development in South Austin. The outpost will be almost twice the size at 9,000 square feet and include a first — 10 gas pumps.
Meanwhile, Beer Geek near Buda is making its own southward push to 117 Lonesome Quail in New Braunfels. As the name implies, the store is a destination for serious hop heads, offering an encyclopedic assortment of brews ranging from Texas faves like Blue Owl and Jester King to cult brands such as Goose Island.
Like Quickie Pickie, Beer Geek also offers snacks and fare from food trucks parked outside. The grub can be enjoyed on picnic tables outside or brought inside to pair with several beer selections on tap.
According to the timeline estimations filed, Quickie Pickie’s $2 million buildout was originally estimated to be completed in October 2025. The company has not made an official announcement about the store yet, and multiple requests for more information were not returned.
Beer Geek will be part of a $2 retail shell, taking approximately half of the 12,221 square foot building. TDLR filings say construction is set to wrap up in April 2027. A request for more information was not immediately returned.
