SUDDEN SHUTTERS
4 San Antonio bars suddenly close in St. Paul Square shakeup

Blessed Bogside and its sibling concepts have all shuttered.
St. Paul Square's quest to become a revitalized entertainment district hit a major setback on September 28 as four bars simultaneously shuttered. Blessed Bogside, The Box, Frankie's Roundup, and Vino Veritas, the four concepts that made up Outpost Junction, unexpectedly ended service with one last social media post.
"All good things must come to an end — tonight will be our last night at Outpost Junction," read a post simultaneously posted on all the bar group's accounts. "We'll be closing our doors, but we couldn't go without one final night together. Thank you to everyone who's shared laughs, drinks, and late nights with us - we've loved every moment."
Prolific San Antonio bar owner Steve Mahoney planted the seeds for Outpost Junction when he moved Francis Bogside from Southtown to the East Side in June 2023. The new iteration included a sister wine bar, Anne's, in the adjoining space.

In September 2023, he followed up with Blayne's, a honky-tonk paying homage to the late Blayne Tucker, the former co-owner of the Mix and managing partner of Floore's Country Store. After Blue Box closed in July 2023, the distinctive cube-shaped sign was moved to St. Paul Square in October 2023 for the opening of The Box.
In September of that year, the children of Mahoney's late majority business partner, Robert Darilek, took over management of the Mahoney Bar Group. According to reporting from the San Antonio Current, the family wanted to preserve their father's legacy and was concerned with out-of-control spending.
Later that year, three of the venues underwent rebranding. Francis Bogside was dubbed Blessed Bogside, Anne's was redubbed Vino Veritas, and Blayne's became Frankie's Roundup. The collective block of bars became Outpost Junction.
It's unclear why the group decided to close the four concepts. CultureMap has reached out to the owners for further comment.
