Popular Schertz Chinese restaurant makes surprise comeback in Cibolo

Kowloon W. Kitchen is back after shuttering in 2023.
After closing in 2022, one of Schertz’s most-missed restaurants is back in action. Kowloon W. Kitchen has reopened at 110 Meek St. in nearby Cibolo, serving its beloved Cantonese and American-Chinese comfort fare.
First opened in 2007 as Kowloon Chinese Restaurant, the eatery quickly became popular for classics like General Tso’s chicken, egg foo young, and walnut shrimp. Fans raved about the customer service, affordable lunches, and surprising Puerto Rican specials served on weekends.
It was just as well-known for its quirky interior. Guests were greeted by a bridge spanning a small pond stocked with turtles. The water feature was always decorated for the seasons with kitschy touches like Santa sleighs and a panda bear topiary.
The 2020s, however, brought a perfect storm of calamities, after surviving COVID-19 lockdowns, Kowloon was hit hard by Winter Storm Uri in 2021, closing for several months. In October 2022, it announced it was officially calling it a day.
The closure left an impression on the community. Former patrons checked Kowloon’s Facebook page regularly for any hint of good news. “It’s been two years and I still miss this place,” commented one of its regulars.
Finally, the fans got their wish. In a surprise move, the restaurant held a soft-opening service on October 26, drawing lines of customers out the door. A second practice service is scheduled from noon to sell out on November 1 and 2.
Kowloon did not return a request for more information by publication time, but, according to social media, it is still hiring staff for its permanent opening. Chinese food lovers can follow the restaurant’s Facebook page for updates.
