Is San Antonio’s all-day brunch craze finally cracking? After nearly a decade in business, Eggspectation will close its Stone Oak restaurant at 402 N. Loop 1604 W. on March 15.

“It has truly been an honor and a pure joy to welcome you — our fantastic guests — for all those brunches, celebrations, lazy weekends, and ‘just because’ cravings,” wrote Eggspectation on Instagram. “Your smiles, stories, loyalty, and love for our eggs Benedict (and mimosas) made every early morning and long shift feel like a party. You’ve been the perfect yolk to our sunny side.”

The Canadian chain first opened in 2016, ahead of the curve of Alamo City’s current brunch cafe boom. Since then, the market has seen a surge in similar concepts from national brands like Famous Toastery and The Toasted Yolk and locally owned upstarts like Humo Eatery and Sunny’s.

Like many restaurants of its ilk, it serves a menu that combines morning classics like pancakes, Benedicts, and crepes with a few gourmet flourishes like lamb and eggs and Canadian favorite poutine. Unlike many of its competitors, it also has a dinner menu with chicken schnitzel, seafood bouillabaisse, and steak frites.

Eggspectation did not give a reason for the sudden closure, but it does not appear to be related to a company-wide problem. According to industry publication Nation’s Restaurant News, the chain saw a strong 10 percent domestic growth in 2025 and is still expanding its national U.S. footprint.

But the location may have been simply subject to market overcrowding. The immediate Stone Oak and Sonterra area is peppered with like-minded restaurants like Pur & Simple, First Watch, Snooze, Box St. All Day, and Full Belly Cafe + Bar.

Despite the retreat, Eggspectation is making the most of its remaining time in the San Antonio dining scene.

“We’ve still got a few precious weeks left to make more memories—come see us one last time for your favorites, a final bottomless brunch, or just to say goodbye with a big group hug,” it wrote. “Let’s send this chapter off with extra hollandaise and even more good vibes!”
