BATTER UP
Giant Topgolf-like baseball center pitches first San Antonio location
An Austin-based entertainment complex is set to round all the bases with its first San Antonio location. After previously teasing a possible new outpost in 2023, Home Run Dugout has officially announced details on a 65,000 square-foot facility in Alamo City coming to an as-yet undisclosed spot at The Rim. (For reference, an acre is 43,560 square feet.)
The Topgolf-like concept will offer augmented reality soft-toss baseball and more than 30 Batting Bays, the company’s proprietary Batting Bays, cageless batting cages outfitted with integrated pitching, flatscreens, and ball recycling. Potential concussions are avoided by Home Run’s pitching machine, which safely tosses balls at seven miles per hour.
Those who don’t cotton to calisthenics will also have plenty to do. The experience is expanded by a variety of amenities, including a restaurant, three bars, and the Biergarten Baseball, a mini playing field and outdoor bar plucked from Field of Dreams.
On the drinks side, a hefty list of craft beers and popular domestics is beefed up with accessible sippers like a strawberry basil smash and a chocolate martini. The food is mostly pub grub like chicken tenders, jumbo pretzels, and nachos, with a few lighter options like a chilled shrimp bowl and Southwestern grain bowl.
“We’re confident that a little friendly competition is the best way to bring people together over drinks, laughter, and home runs,” said Tyler Bambrick, cofounder and CEO of Home Run Dugout. “We look forward to offering San Antonians a new happy hour hangout, game day watch party headquarters, date night spot, and corporate event venue."
The San Antonio location will be the third for the company, which currently has spaces in Round Rock and Katy. With its current round of funding, Home Run Dugout is also also expanding to Sedona, Arizona. The opening day is still to be announced, although construction will begin in 2025.
