Guy Fieri-approved Korean BBQ debuts first Texas location in San Antonio
San Antonio's barbecue culture isn't just about brisket. Now Dae Gee Korean BBQ, which has been featured on a famous Guy Fieri show, is moving in with a new location at the Blanco Pointe Shopping Center in Stone Oak (19186 Blanco Rd. #103). This is the popular chain's first location in the whole state, according to a press release.
Dae Gee, which is based in Westminster, Colorado, is still a relatively small business. It opened in 2010 and now displays seven current locations on its website; in early 2024, Forbes reported that four of those were franchised.
As at most Korean barbecues, guests at Dae Gee get to cook their thin-sliced meats on grills built into the tables. Options include pork, chicken, beef short ribs, pork belly, shrimp, scallops, and more. Some of the all-you-can-eat meats are marinated, and appetizers, sides, bee beem bhop (rice bowls), and even some entrees inject extra variety.
The menu boasts that Guy Fieri favored the soon doo boo cheegae, a spicy tofu stew, when he visited in 2015 to film an episode of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
“San Antonio has become quite a culinary destination in recent years, and we’re excited to bring Dae Gee to the area," said co-owner and operator Anahi Resendez. "We have no doubt the community will love it.”
Resendez is joined in the venture by her husband, Tommy Nguyen, and her parents, Ovidio and Ana Resendez. Nguyen says they were looking for a franchise to introduce in San Antonio, and "Dae Gee was the only concept that really stood out to us.”
Resendez also pointed out that because of the variety in Korean cuisine, it's easy to get a well-balanced meal through Korean barbecue.
That'll be up to diners to decide when they visit for a $38 all-you-can-eat dinner or $30 lunch. Most menu items are also available à la carte. Dae Gee is open Mondays through Thursdays and Saturdays from 11 am to 9 pm, and Fridays from 11 am to 10 pm.
