COMING ATTRACTIONS
Bobbie’s Southern Kitchen returns to South Side with new restaurant

Bobbie's Southern Kitchen is returning to the South Side.
While some local dining institutions are shrinking their San Antonio footprint, Bobbie’s Southern Kitchen is growing. A year after closing its South Flores Street restaurant, the beloved breakfast spot is officially taking over the old Neptune’s Seafood House space at 1922 Goliad Rd. this fall.
Owners Ana and Greg Ferris teased the upcoming opening in summer 2024, when it shuttered Bobbie’s longtime home in preparation for a move north to 606 Embassy Oaks. Via a recent social media post, the couple announced they finally had the keys to begin renovations.
The opening will continue the legacy of one of Alamo City’s most storied restaurants. The diner first launched when Robert and Vida Condra converted the Bob Jones Truck Stop into a cafe. Their daughter Bobbie and husband Santos Padilla moved the restaurant to South Flores in 1986, where it remained until 2024.
Now, a fourth generation of the family is writing a new chapter for the restaurant. After working in the restaurant throughout his teenage years, Greg took over the reins with Ana in 2020.
The new South Side Bobbie’s will continue serving homestyle Southern favorites like chicken fried steak and eggs, blueberry pancakes, and various dishes made with the restaurant’s famous scratch-made biscuits. And, of course, there will be pies like a coconut cream towering with meringue.
One thing won’t be on the menu, however. In a direct message, Ana says they are ditching burgers for now so as not to compete with neighboring business Kenny’s Burgers.
According Ana, the restaurant is aiming for an October 1 grand opening — but construction projects are always subject to delays. Hungry locals can follow the Bobbie’s Instagram account for further updates.
