Haute Southern-style restaurant heads to Northwest San Antonio
Forget fine dining restaurants and all-day cafes. San Antonio's newest restaurant promises a hybrid "fine-casual" concept when it opens in The Rim in late September.
Southerleigh Haute South will feature a menu based on Southern-style food, including the signature fried chicken made famous by sister restaurant Southerleigh. Along with fried chicken, the newest spot in the growing Southerleigh mini empire will offer seafood, a full oyster bar, rotisserie chicken, sandwiches, salads, and even dessert hand pies.
“Our fried chicken and seafood have always been some of the fan favorites at our Pearl location, so when the idea to create a fast-casual concept featuring these items began to take shape a few years back, we were inspired by our customers to further develop our recipes while searching for a location that felt like the perfect fit to launch our new brand,” said Southerleigh chef and co-owner Jeff Balfour in a release.
As for booze, imbibers can expect beers from the company's eponymous brewery alongside classic Southern cocktails such as the hurricane, milk punch, French julep, and a twist on the Old Fashioned called the Rooster & Biscuit. Frozen cocktails and an "approachable" wine list round out the drinking options.
Once open — an exact date in September has not been announced — Southerleigh Haute South will be open for brunch, lunch, dinner, and happy hour while also offering takeout and delivery options. Speaking of happy hour, diners can take advantage of daily deals and weekend brunch specials.
The new 4,000-square-foot-plus restaurant offers both indoor and patio seating, making social distancing a bit easier. A release notes that the restaurant will continue to implement the same health and safety guidelines that it's developed at Southerleigh's Pearl location. Those include use of a professional sanitation crew, touchless QR-code menus, and prescreening of employees, among other measures.
This is of course a somewhat different concept, and entirely different name, than what the restaurant group first announced last summer. In August 2019, Southerleigh Bird & Biscuit was the name of the eatery coming to the same Rim location at 5822 Worth Pwky., #11, offering a similar chicken-based menu of Southern classics.
The Southerleigh Haute South is just one of three projects currently in the works for Southerleigh. Along with new Rim restaurant, the group has a location of Southerleigh Brewing Company and a second location of Haute South in the works. Both of those concepts will be located in the Brooks development sometime in 2021.
