After receiving 72 million entries, Home and Garden Television's $1.1 million, grand-prize San Antonio house is now a home. Cathy Everts of Eagle, Idaho, won the network's 2025 sweepstakes and will soon become Alamo City's newest resident.
HGTV announced its 2025 Smart Home giveaway in April, choosing San Antonio for its rich blend of history and modern attractions. In addition to a completely renovated 1950s charmer, the prize included a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLC Plug-In Hybrid SUV and $100,000 in cash.
KM Builders updated the vintage three-bedroom, three-bath estate with energy-efficient skylights and an open floor plan. Famed interior designer Poonam Moore fully furnished the rooms with a subdued color palette and clean lines that echo the home's midcentury roots.

The fancy space includes a massive central kitchen with black quartz countertops and two-tone cabinets, opening up to a plush living room arranged around a wood-paneled storage wall. The home even includes a basketball-themed media room — a nod to San Antonio's Spurs mania.
"This home is the perfect mix of fun, luxury, functionality, and effortless living," said Moore in an earlier news release. "When designing it, I wanted to blend touches of midcentury modern influences with a playful Texas twist, creating a fresh, fun, stylish aesthetic that sets this home apart."
Everts is no stranger to Texas. Her late husband, Dan, is buried in Rockwell, where they raised three children. Her son Drew hosted a family lunch where Moore revealed the once-in-a-lifetime prize.

"I was so excited to spend time with my son, and the hostess comes up, and she has an unusually big smile, and I thought, 'wow, everyone is really happy here today.' When Poonam called my name, I knew something was up! My brain said there's no way this is real," said Everts via a statement.
Everts did not name a favorite room, nor what she plans to do with the custom basketball court outfitted with a smart hoop. But with 11 grandchildren coming to visit, it's likely to get a workout.
