Realtor Profile
This design-minded San Antonio Realtor soars by helping others succeed
In Nathan Dumas' first three years as an agent, he successfully managed more than $30 million in real estate transactions. His impressive stats grow even more from there: winning the San Antonio Business Journal Top 25, Platinum Top 50, and being named the No. 10 agent for all of Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty.
So how does he do it? Dumas is an expert on the San Antonio market, and he is always ready with the most accurate and current information. He also tackles complex transactions with ease, something that was born out of his previous career as a healthcare executive. In that profession he provided physicians and providers with the right tools to be successful, and established many lifelong relationships — something he's now doing for homebuyers and sellers.
A passion for architecture and design doesn't hurt, either. Dumas' family is made up of design enthusiasts who have backgrounds in art, architecture, and engineering, and his own DIY skills get a workout in the home renovation and landscape projects he and his wife enjoy tackling. When traveling, Dumas seeks out art galleries, notable architecture, and the best local restaurants — though he's always happy to return home to San Antonio and its local culture.
We chatted with Dumas to find out more about his work and what drives him.
CultureMap: What inspires you to do what you do?
Nathan Dumas: I love homes. I love working with and helping people. Helping someone find their home or sell their home is not a job, it is a passion. I treat every transaction and home search as if it were my own.
CM: What’s one piece of advice you'd give to those who are selling?
ND: Right now is the best time to sell. We are in a seller's market, where there are more buyers than there are homes for sale. Once you've decided to list your home, remember that you never get a second chance for a first impression, which is almost always online through photos. I always use professional photography with HD video on all our listings. Before getting any buyers through the door, we must remove anything that would make a buyer question the condition of the home. If you have great photos, are priced right using market comparables, and have the home in move-in condition, there should be no reason why the home shouldn't sell quickly.
CM: What do you consider your "special skill"?
ND: Market knowledge and ability to access unique financing. The majority of my clientele are physicians — they don't have a lot of time to search the internet and look at properties all day. Knowing the market, what is in MLS and pocket listings, and having sources that cater to physicians and provide unique financing options saves time for my clients.
CM: What's one thing people might not know about you?
ND: I have a master's degree in healthcare administration and spent almost 10 years in hospital operations and management. This time in my life helped me learn how to work with people and manage projects.
CM: Finish the sentence: "It's a good day when..."
ND: After showing homes to clients and writing an offer on their dream home, I can spend time with my wife and newborn son over dinner and a bottle of wine.
