How loving art helps this San Antonio Realtor appreciate — and sell — fine homes
San Antonio native and Kuper Sotheby's International Realty Realtor Diana Gonzalez's love for real estate started early. Her father, who was also a real estate broker, took the family every Sunday to tour open houses and builder homes, and the seed was planted.
After graduating from Texas State University, Gonzalez spent more than 20 years in pharmaceutical sales before opening her own luxury homebuilding company. She then acquired her real estate license in 2009. Gonzalez is also a licensed broker and has received her Accredited Buyer's Representative (ABR) designation, as well as winning the Five Star Professional Award several times — only 7 percent of the area's real estate agents receive this award.
Gonzalez loves contemporary art, having served on the board of Blue Star Contemporary Art Center and on the board of the Artist's Foundation. She enjoys entertaining, attending art gallery openings, cooking, and listening to her adult children tell tall tales.
We chatted with Gonzalez to find out more about her work and what drives her.
CultureMap: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to people looking for their dream home?
Diana Gonzalez: Prioritize your wants and needs, and when you drive up to your home you should always have the feeling of sanctuary.
CM: Advice to those who are selling?
DG: I always tell my sellers, think of this as a black tie affair. Could you wear a suit instead of a tux? Could you wear a cocktail dress instead of gown? Maybe, but the expectation is for formal attire. Your home has given you memories and shelter, and now it deserves to be showcased while you move on to your next chapter.
CM: Sum up San Antonio in three words.
DG: Energetic, eclectic, and friendly.
CM: What do you consider your "special skill"?
DG: The ability to listen to my clients and find them the perfect home. One of my clients had to have a mature palm tree planted right next to the pool; that was a “need.” I found him two homes in four weeks with that palm tree and he bought one of them!
CM: What's one thing people might not know about you?
DG: I love light fixtures! All types, all finishes. Change one fixture in your home and you have a brand-new space.
