This Realtor is on a quest to make San Antonio even more awesome
A personal interest in center city real estate, traditional neighborhoods, and especially downtown San Antonio led Debra Maltz to found Centro Properties in 1978. The company specialized in leasing, property management, and sales, and eventually Maltz brought her knowledge to Kuper Sotheby's International Realty. Now her 40 years of experience in San Antonio real estate translates into an agent with dedication, knowledge, and approachability.
Now she navigates transactions seamlessly through demonstrated market knowledge and strategic negotiation skills, highlighting residences in modern high-rise condominiums, desirable historic neighborhoods, and mixed-use spaces surrounded by premier dining, shopping, and the arts. Her impressive list of accreditations include GREEN, Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR), Accredited Luxury Home Residential Specialist (LHRS), and Senior Real Estate Specialist (SRES).
Recognizing the importance of history and culture in her city, Maltz is involved with organizations that promote the quality of life in her community. She and her husband are strong patrons of the arts, sitting on the board of the music group SOLI Ensemble and season ticket-holders to the symphony. A member of the board for the Downtown Alliance, she applies her expertise of the area to its popular annual Urban Spaces Tour. As a host for SERVAS, an International peace organization, Debra opens her home to international guests interested in the heritage and culture of San Antonio. As a lover of making San Antonio a better place to live, Debra is an Awesome Foundation Trustee, giving people monthly grants to make San Antonio more awesome.
We chatted with Maltz to find out more about her work and what drives her.
CultureMap: What inspires you to do what you do?
Debra Maltz: Working to make San Antonio an even more awesome world-class city while retaining its character. Smart growth and being sustainable are very important to making the city the best it can be.
CM: What’s one piece of advice you give to people looking for their dream home?
DM: Always take into account your personal plan. Some buyers want to have the best house ever and a walkable neighborhood, some want to be in a peaceful community, some people want to have money to travel in addition to having a great home. Figuring out those goals is very important in determining what kind of house you want and where it's located.
CM: And advice to those who are selling?
DM: Get your house in the best possible condition you can, as first impressions are everything to buyers. Pay attention to the market and list it at the market value. I have found having a home sit on the market for a long time, trying to get an over-market price, does not yield great results in the end.
CM: Sum up San Antonio in three words.
DM: We're a secret! (Keep it that way.)
CM: What's one thing people might not know about you?
DM: I have an amazing husband who supports me 100 percent, two crazy Jack Russells that keep me totally entertained, and two handsome (I am prejudiced) sons who blew me away with their intelligence and zest for life. That's three things!
