Famous Kardashian shapewear brand sneaks into first Central Texas storefront
There's a new shapewear store in Texas, with lines reaching around the block and buzz all over the state. Kim Kardashian's Skims line is now available to shop in-person at a newly-opened "work shop" at Austin's Domain Northside.
The Skims Work Shop quietly opened its doors to the public on November 9, with no fanfare or formal announcement.
It is the latest high-profile brand to earn a place on Domain Northside's roster, which recently also includes a beloved local restaurant. Although Domain Northside and The Domain are technically separate entities, the neighboring mall has also been targeting luxury brands, including two fashion houses and three watchmakers.
Located at 11700 Domain Blvd., Suite 120, the highly popular shapewear brand is occupying the space where luxury consignment shop The RealReal used to be. A line of eager shoppers extended down the sidewalk and around onto Palm Way on November 10.
Kardashian's shapewear has earned public acclaim for its size-inclusivity and wide range of nude colors for every skin tone. The company was founded in 2019 alongside entrepreneur couple Emma and Jens Grede, with the goal in mind to develop the "next generation of underwear, loungewear, and shapewear."
"We are setting new standards by providing solutions for every body," the company website says. "From technically constructed shapewear that enhances your curves to underwear that stretches to twice its size, our goal is to consistently innovate on the past and advance our industry for the future."
Opening a Skims storefront in Austin (even if it's just temporary) is a testament to the city's tremendous growth and its attractive demographics. The brand has hosted some pop-ups in other cities over the years, and announced in June that it would occupy its first flagship store in Los Angeles in 2024.
Around Texas, Skims shapewear and clothing was already available to shop in-person at Nordstrom, but there do not appear to be any other pop-ups active around the nation — unless they, too, are purposefully flying under the radar. The Skims website states the brand is exclusively sold online and at certain stockists.
Two Skims store representatives could not comment publicly about the opening to CultureMap.
The Skims Work Shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm, and on Sunday from 12-6 pm.
