EAT, PLAY, LOVE
8 creative things to do for Valentine's Day in San Antonio

It’s not for us to call the Roman god of love stupid, but perhaps Cupid has gotten blasé after centuries of matchmaking. While the traditional blow-out dinner isn’t a bad way to celebrate a beloved, the San Antonio Valentine’s Day calendar is also packed with more memorable events. Whether single or coupled, February 14 is a yearly reminder of the possibilities of love. Get into the spirit at these local spots.
The DoSeum Adult Night
Feel like a kid again with a grown-up evening at San Antonio’s premier interactive museum. Patrons will enjoy bites, alcoholic and zero-proof drinks, music, and exhibit access. The $45 nonrefundable admission is all-inclusive, so arrive early to soak up all the fun. 7-9:30 pm, 2800 Broadway.
Free Marriages at the Bexar County Courthouse
Save the money for the honeymoon. The Bexar County Courthouse continues its tradition of offering complimentary mass weddings on the north steps. Couples must obtain a marriage license 72 hours before the ceremony or qualify for an exception. A $20 donation to the Bexar County Family Justice Center is encouraged. The gathering starts with a block party on February 13, with weddings kicking off after midnight. February 13 at10 pm to February 14 at 2 pm, multiple locations.
San Antonio Botanical Gardens Starlight Movies
The botanical gardens’ cinematic series continues with a showing of Adam Sandler's rom-com romp 50 First Dates. Admission is $22 with add-ons for sandwich-and-charcuterie baskets or a reserved bottle of red, white, or sparkling wine. 6-10 pm, 555 Funston Pl.
San Antonio Museum of Art Romance and Ruin
Saunter through SAMA’s most amorous artworks during these guided tours, themed around the glamor and grotesquery of love. The ticket price ($35 for members, $30 for nonmembers) includes a choice of tours, wine, and a wooden sacred heart keepsake. 5:30-6:30 pm, 200 W. Jones Ave.
Valentine’s, Baby! at Artisan Craft Bar
Being enamored with puns, how could we not recommend an evening organized by a burlesque artist named Pantie Oaklie? This risqué revue is sure to strip a few pretensions. General admission is $25; VIP upgrades go for $55. 7:30-10:30 pm, 402 Austin St.
Valentine’s Day Haunted Hike
Like the idea of undying love but not all the Valentine’s Day frippery? The San Antonio River Authority has partnered with Curious Twins for an eerie stroll down Museum Reach. Although admission is free, it does come with some notable (Lydia) deetz. Due to limited capacity, a refundable $10 deposit is required. Funds from no-shows will be donated to the San Antonio River Foundation. 7-8 pm, location TBA.
Valentine’s Day Paint & Sip at McIntyre’s North Star
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec painted while loaded on absinthe; Andy Warhol preferred Dom Pérignon. Surely, a cucumber shot wouldn’t hurt most locals' artistic endeavors. The $45-$80 tickets to this expressive bar night include a canvas, access to art supplies, a welcome cocktail, and more — but no guarantees of a masterpiece. 7-10 pm, 90 N.E. Interstate 410 Loop.
Valentine’s Day at the San Antonio Zoo
Wild out at the zoo during four days of interactive programming ranging from a romantic dinner to the Naughty by Nature tour, an adult peek into animals' most intimate habits. Explorers can also purchase Kiss-O-Gram videos, a “poop-scented” Hippo Love Candle for an ex, or get some petty revenge via the ever-popular Cry Me a Cockroach fundraiser.
