Thrilling South Texas Showdown rodeo barrels into Uvalde in October

Tickets to the South Texas Showdown are on sale now.
The South Texas Showdown is back in the saddle this October with a week of high-stakes rodeo competition, family fun, and plenty of South Texas grit. Tickets are available now for the second annual event, taking place October 20-26 at the Uvalde Country Fairplex.
Founded in 2024 by local philanthropists, parents, and lifelong rodeo fans, the event was built on a simple idea: celebrate the rodeo lifestyle while giving back to the community. That vision paid off in its inaugural year — the Showdown raised more than $200,000 for area youth programs like Little League, 4-H, FFA, and the Boys & Girls Club in Uvalde and surrounding towns.
This year, the Showdown is doubling down on what made it such a hit. Over the course of a week, the Fairplex will host everything from classic team roping and steer roping to breakaway and tie-down events, showcasing both seasoned competitors and up-and-coming talent.
The schedule culminates in a headline matchup between two of the sport’s brightest stars: World Champions Haven Meged and Shad Mayfield. Their faceoff promises to be a must-see event for rodeo fans across Texas.

But the Showdown isn’t just about big names and belt buckles. One of the most anticipated events of the week is the Exceptional Rodeo, designed for children with disabilities. For many families, it’s the highlight of the schedule — a chance for kids to experience the thrill of rodeo in a safe, joyful environment that celebrates their abilities.
“We decided to create this event to give back to the community,” said Bart Hutton, co-founder of the South Texas Showdown, in a press release. “As a longtime Uvalde resident, I felt like this is something the city was missing, and last year’s response proved just that.”
Tickets for the South Texas Showdown are on sale now, ranging from $17.10 for a general one-day pass to $114 for a four-day reserved seat. The October 20-22 competitions, featuring the 19-and-under categories, do not require admission. A full rodeo schedule can be found online.
