Legendary comedian Dave Chappelle surprises San Antonio with last-minute performances
UPDATE: No surprise here, but San Antonio loves Dave Chappelle. After last night's show sold out in record time, the Aztec Theatre announced on October 15 that Chappelle will add two more dates: October 15 and October 16. Tickets for both performances go on sale today at 3 pm. To purchase tickets for the Tuesday, October 15, show, click here. For tickets to the Wednesday, October 16, show, go here. Details on number of tickets and more information can be found below.
There are few stars who can announce a last-minute performance, release tickets five hours before doors open, and still almost guarantee a sold-out crowd like Dave Chappelle. But the legendary comedian did just that on October 14, at 11 am, when it was announced he is performing tonight at the Aztec Theatre at 9 pm.
Creator of the Emmy Award-winning Chappelle's Show, the comedian has been popping up all over the country following the release of latest Netflix special, Sticks & Stones. The comedian surprised Houston last week with shows at the House of Blues and popped up in Austin last year with an impromptu (and sold-out) date at the Paramount Theater.
Chappelle has received some backlash for the aforementioned Sticks & Stones, with some critics slamming the comedian for jokes about transgender people, women, and guns, with others calling it uncomfortably necessary in the age of Trump. Of course, controversy is nothing new for Chappelle, someone who once left Hollywood to spend the better part of a decade in hiding.
Tickets for his all ages performance go on sale today at 3 pm here and are limited to two per person. Exact pricing has not yet been released, but it will likely vary by location inside the 1,500-seat theater. Patrons who need wheelchair access or have other accessibility needs should contact the box office at 210-812-4355 for information.
Those who purchase tickets must show identification and the credit card used in the transaction in order to gain entry. Once inside, all attendees will be required to place their phones, cameras, and recording devices in locked bags before heading into the theater.
Doors for tonight's show open at 8 pm. For more details, head to the Aztec Theatre.
