San Antonio reels in blockbuster lineup for classic summer movie series
Whether you are a serious cinephile or just want to see Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon dressed in drag, the Santikos Bijou is where you’ll want to be this summer. On March 6, Cinema Tuesdays revealed its lineup for 2019 — and it's packed with beloved movies.
Offering the chance to see some of Hollywood's greatest hits on the big screen, the annual film series is also a benefit for Texas Public Radio. Nathan Cone, host and TPR director of cultural and community engagement, curates the programming each year, combining art house rarities with blockbusters.
The season kicks off May 28 with a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, the cult Jacques Demy musical that made French actress Catherine Deneuve a star, follows on June 4. Perpetual crowdpleaser The Blues Brothers rounds out the summer series on August 13.
The full list of screenings include:
- May 28 — Raiders of the Lost Ark
- June 4 — The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
- June 11 — The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez
- June 18 — Detour and The Hitch-Hiker double feature
- June 25 — Oscar Shorts
- July 2 — Midnight Cowboy
- July 9 — Some Like it Hot
- July 16 — Strangers on a Train
- July 23 — All That Heaven Allows
- July 30 — Zodiac
- August 6 — Wings of Desire

The showtime for all of the features is 7:30 pm each week. Seats can be secured with a suggested donation of $10 for TPR members and $15 for non-members. Season passes are also available for $90 now through June 4. The season pass grants access to all of the screenings during Cinema Tuesdays' run.
The organizers recommend arriving to the screenings early each week to ensure the best seats. Advanced reservations can be made by calling 1-800-622-8977 no later than noon on the day of the show.
