CultureMap San Antonio Editor
CultureMap is seeking a dynamic and versatile editor to manage the day-to-day operations of its San Antonio website and grow its coverage and readership in 2025.
The ideal candidate has proven experience as a news reporter and editor and brings deep knowledge of San Antonio and a passion for covering its many facets of lifestyle and culture.
This position requires a self-starter who loves working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven virtual newsroom. While much of the work is autonomous, the San Antonio editor, under the guidance of the editorial director, will work closely with the CultureMap Austin editor to cover the emerging “mega-metro” of Central-South Texas.
The San Antonio editor must be adept at writing and reporting, as well as assigning and editing others' work. The ideal candidate will be skilled at producing breaking news items and quick turnarounds, as well as developing features, listicles, and evergreen story ideas. They will possess excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills and be able to juggle multiple daily deadlines with ease.
This position is remote, but candidates must be based in the San Antonio metro area and be available during standard business hours (at a minimum) and be able to maintain a full-time schedule.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing editorial calendar and daily publishing schedule
- Publishing a minimum of five stories each weekday
- Writing stories regularly, including breaking news items on tight deadlines
- Assigning stories to freelance contributors and network staff
- Editing all stories for content, style, and accuracy, according to AP style and internal guidelines
- Crafting engaging, SEO-friendly headlines
- Managing social media posts
- Monitoring story and site performance on a daily basis
- Building Daily Digest emails
- Procuring photos according to brand standards
- Executing special series and projects (i.e., CultureMap Tastemaker Awards)
- Maintaining and growing a roster of freelance contributors
- Working with the editorial director and other city editors to fulfill company goals
- Representing CultureMap at local events, as needed

- Excellent news judgment, editing, reporting, and writing skills
- Ability to write, assign, and edit stories quickly and accurately
- Proven ability to multitask and juggle fast deadlines and longer-lead features
- Experience covering a range of lifestyle news
- Knowledge of major San Antonio institutions, geography, people, and culture
- Experience using analytics tools to make data-driven decisions
- Knowledge of AP style
- Tech-savvy and able to work within a custom content management system
- Self-starter, proactive, and team-oriented

Advertising Sales Executive
CultureMap is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Advertising Sales Executive to drive sales revenue for CultureMap and Gow Media. The Account Executive will be responsible for helping grow their clients' business through customized solutions utilizing a combination of CultureMap, Gow Media, and third-party products. The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop, or already holds, deep VP- and CMO-level relationships with businesses and agencies on a local and regional level.
Key Account Executive Responsibilities
- Create new leads by cold calling and scheduling face-to-face meetings
- Manage and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets
- Cultivate and develop high-level client relationships as a consultative seller
- Develop creative campaigns and proposals to help clients achieve their business and marketing goals
- Manage and maintain relationships throughout the entire sales cycle, from initial contact through execution of the client campaign
- Provide regular updates to management on sales pipeline and partnerships
- Serve as an industry expert in digital advertising
Requirements, Experience, and Attributes of Ideal Candidates
- 2+ years outside sales experience, preferably in a local/regional media environment
- Proven success prospecting/cold-calling local and regional accounts
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player
- Self-starter with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality
- Consultative sales style with strong analytical skills and ability to research problems and provide strategic solutions
- Ability to work with the internal teams to solve problems and deliver results for clients
- Effective negotiation skills Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills, well versed in Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe Acrobat Ability to sell multiple products and present big ideas/complex packages
- Driven and goal-oriented with the ability to contribute to a highly collaborative team environment
