YOSA Philharmonic’s "Shostakovich Five" closes the season with music that stirs, challenges, and inspires.
Shostakovich’s Symphony No.5 is a gripping journey from darkness to triumph. The deeply moving work was born under the pressure of Soviet oppression and captures the resilience of the human spirit in the face of fear and control. Full of raw emotion, irony, and defiance, it continues to provoke and move listeners nearly a century after its premiere.
The concert also features William Walton’s Crown Imperial, a march composed for a royal coronation, and a special solo performance by the winner of the 2025/26 YOSA Concerto Competition. YOSA Capriccio Strings will also take the stage in this celebratory close to the season.
