The Overtime Theater and TacoTown Theatre Company will present the world premiere production of Madame X: A Burlesque Fantasy, a burlesque play about portraitist John Singer Sargent’s most famous work. This comedic, adult-themed narrative is written, directed, and choreographed by international burlesque artist Jade Esteban Estrada and features award-winning burlesque star Coco Lectric.
During a gentle age soon to be known as La Belle Époque, John Singer Sargent is a successful artist who makes his living painting commissioned portraits of celebrities and high-ranking members of the Parisian aristocracy. One day, after encountering a young, beautiful socialite by the name of Madame Pierre Gautreau, he passionately begins a quest to paint her captivating image. When the piece is finally complete, he’s convinced that it will be hailed as his greatest masterpiece. However, the controversial reception of his portrait at the prestigious Paris Salon unexpectedly results in a social scandal, a rejection of the work and, eventually, the artist’s ruin. How the painting and its maker rose from the ashes is arguably one of the most dramatic stories of the art world.
