From 1938-1940, as the Nazis rose to power and cast an ominous fate over Jewish households, an estimated 10,000 Jewish children from Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Austria were sent to England by their families - many of whom would never be seen again, in order to protect them from the looming atrocities of war.
The informal rescue operation was called Kindertransport, German for "children's transport." Anne Lehmann Fox was 12 years old when she boarded a train to London in December 1938. She survived, but both of her parents were killed in concentration camps. Fox related the experience in her 1996 autobiography, My Heart in a Suitcase.
ArtsPower National Touring Theatre’s theatrical stage production of My Heart in a Suitcase will be presented as part of the Carver Community Cultural Center’s Youth Matinee Series.
