Bihl Haus Arts will host the exhibition, “San Antonio in Calligraphic Art.” It features exquisite hand-lettered books and broadsides about San Antonio created by members of the San Antonio Calligraphers’ Guild. The poolside reception includes live music, hors d'oeuvres, and libations on the patio.
Calligraphy, a visual art form related to writing, is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument, brush, or other writing instruments. A contemporary calligraphic practice, as defined by Claude Mediaville (1996), is "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner.” In contemporary practice, these signs can range from elegant, legible lettering to the unreadable mark.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through July 7.
