A Chinese retailer is bringing even more cute to San Antonio. Miniso, the variety store chain known for cosmetics, stationery, toys, and kitchenware featuring Marvel characters and Disney Princesses, is opening its third local shop at The Rim, 17703 La Cantera Pkwy.
Although Miniso has not formally announced the new store, signage has popped up at the former location of Popshelf. The former shuttered in April as part of a nationwide rollback.
Miniso quietly made its San Antonio debut at Ingram Park Mall in July 2024, quickly following up with a second store in SouthPark Mall in September 2026. Both openings drew long lines for their pop culture goods, which are sold at bargain prices.
The lifestyle store first debuted in Guangzhou, China, in 2013 and has quickly spread across the globe. Although the pastel offerings on display are undeniably adorable, don’t call it kawaii. In its early years, the chain got into a minor social media kerfuffle over authenticity and has since ditched its Japanese-influenced branding.
The shop is most known for its collaborations with some of the most recognizable franchises on the planet, including Minecraft, Barbie, Harry Potter, and My Little Pony. The cartoon characters are splashed across almost everything, from costume jewelry and travel mugs to flip-flops and instant noodles.
Miniso also produces its own house goods, mostly plushies shaped like chicken legs, capybaras, and broccoli. There are also a few more conventional stuffed toys like lambs, but even those have winsome accessories like watermelon hats. The squee continues to a small food sections with Asian Lays flavors and drinks like ramune.
Miniso doesn’t typically make much of a fuss about store openings — relying on word of mouth over press releases. But the store opening appears to be imminent, with a store sign including a QR code for job openings. CultureMap has contacted the company for more detailed timeline info.
