Popular San Antonio movie theater reopens after Hollywood-style renovation
A popular San Antonio movie theater is getting a Hollywood-style makeover. After more than 30 years in the Alamo City, Cinemark San Antonio 16 is unveiling its glamorous new look on October 31 — just in time for the end-of-year movie blitz.
In keeping with the rise of dine-in cinema chains like Alamo Drafthouse and comfort-first theaters like iPic, Cinemark now offers expanded menu options and plush seating, among other upgrades.
Beginning in the fully renovated lobby, moviegoers are treated to a concession stand stocked with classics like popcorn and candy, as well as expanded menu items, including Pizza Hut pizza, which can be enjoyed during the show. Guests can also sneak into the adjacent state-of-the-art arcade room to have some post-flick fun.
Once inside the theater, pizza in hand, patrons can kick back and relax in plush recliner seats, called Luxury Loungers. Located in all of the Cinemark's 16 theaters, the electric-powered chairs feature footrests, cup holders, and even heat-controlled seats.
"This theater has been a part of the San Antonio community for 30 years and has been fully remodeled to service as a standard Cinemark theater with upgraded amenities and expanded movie offerings to offer local movie lovers the modern entertainment experience they deserve," a company rep said via email.
Also among the new changes is an upgrade in the movies themselves. While it didn't offer details, Cinemark said it will screen "new films in a multitude of film genres that were not previously available at this location."
The theater, located at 5063 Loop 410 NW, is giving fans a sneak peek at its full renovation during an October 31 grand reopening celebration. The family-friendly event will feature Halloween-themed giveaways and a live radio broadcast with KBBT DJ Brandi Garcia. Festivities run from 6-8 pm and are free and open to the public.
Along with the grand opening, the newly renovated theater will officially resume screenings on October 31.
