Seen through the experiences of one turbulent American family, Like Stars, Moonie explores many manifestations of longing and loss, and the damage that can be done by wounds left unhealed and dreams left unfulfilled.

Maggie is a senior in high school, and has big plans for her future. Her parents, however, have differing views about her ambitions. Lori clings to her daughter in an attempt to keep her close, and to assuage her own insecurities and anxieties. Meanwhile, the effect of Michael's dark past on his family is becoming more and more prevalent. Everyone has a choice to make, and none of them are easy.
