House & Honky Tonk
Popular Texas DJs team up for house-country dance party in San Antonio
Stable Hall, the newly refurbished San Antonio music venue that showcases both local and national artists, has wasted no time in charming San Antonians. It has already been nominated for the San Antonio Current’s Best Of awards in the Best Music Venue category, and it's broken out of the traditional concert space for some fun interactive events.
One of the latter is “Saddle Up: A House & Honky Tonk Hoedown,” coming up July 12. San Antonio's own DJ Catwalk, a regular at Stable Hall, is joining forces this time with Austin's Disko Cowboy from Vinyl Ranch for a hybrid night of house and country music.
Although some may not see the connection between genres, country music is hitting its zenith of popularity with dance crowds — and we don't just mean line dancing. Be it Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, Beyoncé, or any number of collaborators like Post Malone or Marshmello, many artists with country chart-topping songs are leaning heavily on sleek pop styles for dance music that appeals to a wider audience than specifically country fans.
An event promo by the aptly named, very fashionable DJ Catwalk features an unexpected mashup of the 2005 club country hit "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" and 1995 house masterpiece "100% Pure Love." With Disko Cowboy onboard, expect more nostalgic tunes from the aughts and more high-energy beats. Whatever the duo has planned, it looks like the disco vibes will be strong.
There is no specific dress code, but a press release invites dancers to "channel your inner rhinestone cowboy" when picking an outfit. Music starts at 8 pm. Tickets ($18) are on sale now at stablehall.com.
