City of San Antonio now operating 2 walk-up locations for free COVID-19 tests
As San Antonio struggles to get its COVID-19 cases under control, the city is offering two walk-up testing sites for the month of August. Metro Health and San Antonio Fire Department’s Mobile Integrated Health Program say it's part of a continuing effort to bring free and accessible COVID-19 testing to the community.
The walk-up locations (no appointment required) are located at:
- Cuellar Community Center — 5626 San Fernando St.
- Ramirez Community Center — 1011 Gillette Blvd.
Hours for both sites are Monday-Sunday, from 10 am-2 pm.
Along with the Cuellar and Ramirez centers, the Freeman Coliseum remains open, but by appointment only. To schedule a test at the coliseum, patients should call 833-213-0643.
The city urges anyone who is suffering from symptoms of the coronavirus to get tested. A list of symptoms and a self-assessment test can be found here. Officials also urge anyone who has received a test to self isolate until they receive a negative diagnosis.
Despite COVID-19 cases trending downward in the Lone Star State, San Antonio has struggled to get the pandemic under control, with areas to the northwest and southeast of downtown being hit particularly hard.
On August 3, the Alamo City reported 41,138 positive cases of the novel coronavirus — an increase of 56 from the day before. To date, 370 people have died from COVID-19 in San Antonio.
In a tweet on August 3, Mayor Ron Nirenberg urged San Antonians to stay vigilant in their hygiene practices. "The moving 7-day average of reported cases is still topping 700 [per] day," he wrote. "For the second day in a row, total hospitalizations have increased. We all know what we're looking forward to, but we're just not there yet. Stay vigilant. Stay safe. Stay healthy."
