A Majestic Lineup
San Antonio's historic Majestic Theatre unveils all-star lineup for 90th anniversary
The Majestic and Empire theaters have been an integral part of the Alamo City for decades, entertaining generation after generation of San Antonians. This fall, in honor of their 90th anniversary, the historic venues will welcome a blockbuster lineup of singers, theater performances, special holiday productions, and more.
On September 12, the Majestic Theatre announced its 90th anniversary programming and asked that the public submit "magic moments," aka ways in which the two theaters have impacted locals' lives. Those special memories will be shared throughout the season across the Majestic and Empire social media pages.
The 90th anniversary celebration unofficially begins on September 20-21, when the Majestic sponsors the main stage at the San Antonio Parks Foundation’s 36th Annual Jazz’SAlive Music Festival. The free event, held at Travis Park, includes performances by Dianne Reeves, Lao Tizer Band, and a dozen more artists.
Back at the theaters, The Temptations and The Four Tops swing into town Thursday, October 3, for a can't-miss co-headlining performance. Over the course of their careers, these two groups have made an indelible mark on American music with hits such as "My Girl" (The Temptations) and “Baby I Need Your Loving" (The Four Tops). Tickets begin at $49.50.
Speaking of iconic American musicians, Tony Bennett makes an appearance at the Majestic with his “I Left My Heart" tour on Wednesday, October 9. Bennett is joined by daughter Antonia as the opening act. Tickets to the Bennett-Bennett show begin at $59.50.
Honky-tonk man himself Dwight Yoakam rides into town Sunday, October 20, for one night only, while fellow country superstar Martina McBride brings her The Joy of Christmas tour to the Alamo City on Sunday, December 1. Tickets for both shows also begin at $49.50.
And celebrate the Christmas classic The Nutcracker — with a twist — on Thursday, December 5, when Hip Hop Nutcracker hits the stage. The story follows Maria-Clara and the Nutcracker Prince as they go through a dream adventure through the streets of New York City, teases a release. Tickets to that popping performance begin at $39.50.
The party goes well into 2020, and includes RAIN: A Tribute to the Beatles, a theatrical musical that hits the Majestic on Sunday, April 26. Catch John, Paul, George, and Ringo (kind of) beginning at $45 per ticket.
Of course, this is just a taste of the blockbuster lineup the Majestic and Empire theaters have in store for the 2019-2020 anniversary season. For a full schedule, information, and to purchase tickets, head here.
