1. San Antonio suburb 5th on booming U.S. cities list with homes under $500,000. Texas suburbs have been soaring in popularity in 2024 as more residents escape the bigger cities. Now one near San Antonio, Canyon Lake, is earning accolades on a new list of the top 50 most affordable housing markets for homes under $500,000.

2. San Antonio university ranks No. 18 among best small colleges in U.S. Classes may just be getting started, but there's already a new college-rankings report card out for the new year, and Trinity University has made the high honor roll. The esteemed San Antonio university ranks among America's top 20 small colleges and liberal arts colleges for 2025 by Niche.

3. 10 San Antonio chefs battle it out in fan-voted Burger Showdown. Restaurants around San Antonio can claim to have the best burger, but nothing beats getting them all side-by-side for some science — or, uh, fan voting. Burger-lovers will get together at Burger Showdown 5.0 and choose their favorite sandwich from 10 chefs, each representing a different restaurant.

4. Texas is the 2nd worst state for women's equality, report says. Texas, we have a major equality problem: The Lone Star State has ranked second from the bottom in WalletHub's new nationwide analysis of gender equality. The personal finance website's annual "Best & Worst States for Women's Equality" report, published August 19, ranked Texas No. 49 out of all 50 states where where women receive the most equal treatment in the United States.

5. San Antonio artist's free career retrospective feasts on art and food. From the decadent edible sculptures of Louis XIV's court to the landscaped plates of today, food has always been an artistic medium. Still, few think of the intersection of sustenance and aesthetics as much as San Antonio-born painter, sculptor, and culinary historian Rolando Briseño. From September 5 through February 9, that legacy will be honored at a new show at Centro de Artes Gallery in Market Square.
