Caffeine fix
New San Antonio coffee shop is the first business open in a unique renovation project
Nestled on East Ashby Place is Crème Coffee & Social, a new coffee concept that aims to embody the vibe of classic European cafes – and the first of five concepts set to make up The Creamery, a mixed-use complex near the Pearl neighborhood that revitalizes an old dairy plant.
Crème, open now, utilizes locally roasted beans from Pulp Coffee and freshly baked, 100-percent vegan pastries from Cake Thieves Bakery. The decor alone is worth a photo op (or two) with vibrant emerald green and mauve furniture, among classical paintings with modern edits adorning the walls.
Angela Burns, Director of Concepts of Only One Hospitality, mentioned to CultureMap that in addition to coffee, pastries, and sandwiches, Crème also has "a variety of wine, bubbles, and carajillos."

Rather than have one day of grand opening specials, Crème has a whole week full of deals planned. Starting on November 6, guests will be able to get their caffeine fix, and get extra bonuses depending on what day they visit.
The specials for grand opening week are as follows:
- Monday, November 6: $2 Iced coffee
- Tuesday, November 7: 2-for-1 drinks
- Wednesday, November 8: Free T-shirt with purchase
- Thursday, November 9: Buy a pastry, get a $1 regular coffee
- Friday, November 10: Free drip coffee
- Saturday, November 11: The culmination of Crème's grand opening extravaganza, with free lattes for the first 50 visitors, a mimosa bar, giveaways and more.
According to Only One Hospitality, the group behind Crème (and other businesses, like Costa Pacific), there are tentative plans to expand the coffee shop's hours for night owls, but details have yet to be confirmed.
"We wanted to curate a beautiful adult coffee spot perfect for a social rendezvous or a private respite with untraditional hours," says The Creamery's general manager, Melanie Barrows. "We believe caffeine and confections shouldn’t just be a morning affair."
Crème Coffee & Social
Blazing a trail for the multiple projects intended to revitalize the historic Borden Dairy plant, Crème is set to be followed by a seafood fusion restaurant, Hook — Land and Sea, this winter; an underground lounge called Easy Baby; a social lounge deemed Amelia; and finally, Lunatique, a rooftop garden bar housed on top of Amelia.
